  Rarely does the U.S. government make a mistake - at least in the U.S. Mint Division. Take advantage of this limited opportunity to capitalize on a piece of history with this Liberty V Error Nickel. This 1883 nickel comes in uncirculated condition, encapsulated in an acrylic case. It features a Liberty head on the obverse, and a Roman number V on the reverse. The first of the "V Nickels" had barely left the mint when appalled officials found a fundamental flaw in their design - the word "cents" had been left off. Con artists ended up plating the nickels with gold and passing them off to unsuspecting merchants as $5 gold pieces. Since the Mint so quickly moved to change this coin, it has become one of the more popular nickels to collect. Each view includes 1 coin minted in Philadelphia and 1 minted in Denver. The obverse design for the 2005 nickels bears for the first time in 67 years, a new likeness of America's third president, Thomas Jefferson. The "Liberty" inscription on the coin is based upon Jefferson's own handwriting. The obverse is again changing in 2006, making this a unique 1-year design The American Bison reverse is featured on 2 of the coins and recognizes the American Indians and wildlife encountered by the Lewis and Clark expedition. The Ocean in View reverse shows a scene of western waters and an inscription reflecting an excited entry in the journal of Captain William Clark on November 7, 1805. The design visually depicts the expedition's exultation on believing they had finally reached the Pacific Ocean after so many months of arduous travel. The last 2 nickels in the Westward Journey Nickel series, these coins were only available in the sold-out 2005 United States Mint Sets. They come in a custom acrylic presentation lens with insert.

  The Lincoln Cent is among the most collected coin of all times. Our Fort Knox Collection combines the old style of early 20th century coins with the errors of present day production. The present day Lincoln Memorial reverse first appeared on one cent pieces in 1959. Each of these old pennies is a piece of history never to be revisited. You'll receive a short set of 1941-1958 wheat cents in a Whitman collector's book including the 1943 P, D, & S steel cents and the key 1955-S. All 51 coins are in G-EF condition, completely assembled. A separate case contains five circulated WWI pennies. The war began in 1914 and ended in 1918 when the German Empire singed an armistice with the Allies. Our decorative Plexiglas case contains a circulated wheat penny from each year of the war. Finally, a Fort Knox tiny metal box holds a modern day error coin plated in 24K gold. The coin escaped the Mint's tight detection process.
